GODZILLA Week 12 Box Office Report: $200/300/500 Million!

Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA reached some box office milestone this weekend. Propelled by grosses in Japan, the film has now taken in $307.3 million internationally and $507.4 million worldwide. Rough estimates from Toho put GODZILLA`s 2nd weekend in Japan at ¥324.2 million (Approximately $3.2 million US) from approximately 427 screens. GODZILLA ranked #2 behind Warner Bros. Japan`s debuting RUROUNI KENSHIN: KYOTO INFERNO (????????????, Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Taika Hen). The estimated cume to date in Japan is now ¥1.54 billion (Approximately $15.1 million US). The good news continued on the domestic front as the film finally passed $200 million at the box office in America. As recently as mid-July it appeared that GODZILLA would fall short of that mark, but during the second half of the month it received the needed bump in ticket sales from second-run and discount theaters. GODZILLA will be released on Blu-ray and DVD September 16th. Legendary Pictures recently announced that director Gareth Edwards would return for sequels featuring Godzilla`s most popular Toho co-stars: Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.
