The Dryden Theatre presents four Godzilla films on the big screen this summer Author: Keith Aiken Source: John Yeara Official Site: George Eastman House

Following last year’s successful screening of GODZILLA: FINAL WARS, the King of the Monsters returns to Rochester, New York. The historic Dryden Theatre, part of the George Eastman House motion picture museum, will host a great pair of Godzilla double features this summer. FINAL WARS was such a hit at the Dryden that Assistant Curator of Exhibitions Jim Healy and Rochester’s local Godzilla authority John Yeara went to work on bringing more Godzilla films to the theater. They’ve selected four movies that span the three different eras of the Godzilla series. Three of these films never received a wide theatrical release in the United States, so this will be a rare opportunity for fans to see them as they were meant to be seen – on the big screen. FRIDAY, JULY 21 DOUBLE FEATURE: Two films for one regular admission price! 7:00 PM - GODZILLA (Gojira, 1954) It all started here… the first adventure of the screen’s biggest movie star (literally!). Director: Ishiro Honda, 98 minutes, in Japanese with English subtitles 9:00 PM – SON OF GODZILLA (Kaijuto no Kessen: Gojira no Mosuko, 1967) A United Nations scientific team discovers that the South Pacific Island they’ve chosen for an important experiment is home to giant monsters, including a Baby Godzilla. Director Jun Fukuda, 84 minutes, in Japanese with English subtitles FRIDAY, AUGUST 11 DOUBLE FEATURE: Two films for one regular admission price! 7:00 PM – GODZILLA VS DESTOROYAH (Gojira tai Desutoroia, 1995) A monster spawned from the Oxygen Destroyer challenges Godzilla, who is on the verge of a nuclear meltdown! Director Takao Okawara, 103 minutes, English language version 9:00 PM – GODZILLA, MOTHRA, AND KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK (Gojira, Mosura, Kingughidora: Daikaiju Soshingeki, 2001) Godzilla returns to symbolic roots as he faces off with three guardian monsters in this acclaimed film. Director Shusuke Kaneko, 105 minutes, in Japanese with English subtitles The Dryden Theatre is located at George Eastman House, 900 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607. Ticket prices for the Godzilla double features are: Regular Admission $6.00, Students $5.00, George Eastman House Members $4.00. The theater’s Take-10 Ticket Card provides ten admissions for $45.00 ($35.00 for students and members) but does not guarantee seating for these screenings. The cards are available at the Dryden Theatre box office, the Museum Shop, and the admissions desk. The theater box office opens 45 minutes prior to each performance. Advance tickets are not available for these screenings. About us

Welcome to SciFi Japan, your source for news and information on science fiction, horror, fantasy and action movies, TV shows and videos.. from classics and old favorites, to upcoming productions and home video releases, to the odd and obscure titles you may never have heard of!

The mainstream press has largely ignored Japanese tokusatsu (special effects) films, and when the genre has been covered by American news outlets and television the results were often inaccurate and condescending. On the other hand, there have been some excellent fan publications and websites devoted to these films, but Japanese studios have been extremely reluctant to deal with fan groups due to concerns over copyright infringement issues (some fans advocate and promote activities such as video bootlegging and unlicensed downloading). With no direct access to studio news and photos, fan reporting has often been forced to rely on secondhand info and rumors.

What was missing was a professionally run English news outlet working directly with Japanese studios and filmmakers. So, in 2006, we brought together a talented group of published authors and reporters, film historians, reviewers, festival organizers, and movie makers with ties to the Japanese film industry to launch SciFi Japan (More information on our key contributors can be found here). The only English language news site press registered with all of the major Japanese studios and production companies, SciFi Japan is able to consistently bring accurate and exclusive information on Japanese films and shows to English speaking/reading fans worldwide.

This site also receives updates from licensees and distributors of Japanese movies in North America, the UK and Australia, and we’re press registered with the major American studios as well. So, while our primary focus remains Japanese llive action and anime news we will rinclude international productions in our "International SciFii" and. "Asian Cinema" sections.

And in 2012, we launched SciFi JAPAN TV, a web series featuring coverage of tokusatsu events and interviews with Japanese filmmakers. Each episode was shot on location in Japan exclusively for SciFi Japan by the Gaijin Channel production team.

SciFi Japan has grown by leaps and bounds over these past few years, and the site will continue to improve. So please bookmark SFJ and check back with us frequently… we’ll do our best to make it worth the effort!
