Since its first appearance in 1954, the monster "Godzilla" has continued to fascinate and shock audiences not only in Japan but around the world.
GODZILLA MINUS ONE (ゴジラ-1.0/ゴジラマイナスワン, Gojira Mainasu Wan, 2023), directed by Takashi Yamazaki, was the 70th anniversary Godzilla film and the 30th live-action Godzilla film produced in Japan. It grossed over 7.65 billion yen at the box office. Furthermore, it achieved the remarkable feat of winning over 50 awards at domestic and international film festivals, including becoming the first Asian film to win the Academy Award for Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards creating a global "Godzilla" phenomenon.
On Friday, November 1, 2024, it was announced that a new Godzilla movie would be produced and that Takashi Yamazaki would return to direct, write the screenplay, and oversee VFX, as he did for GODZILLA MINUS ONE. Then, approximately one year later, on November 3, 2025 (Monday, a national holiday)—known as “Godzilla Day”—the title of the new Godzilla film, GODZILLA-0.0(pronounced GODZILLA MINUS ZERO), was revealed at “Godzilla Fest 2025,” held at Tokyo Dome City. The news spread like wildfire throughout Japan and around the world, reaching No. 1 on X’s trending list.
At CinemaCon 2026, held this past April in Las Vegas, the film became the first Japanese production to be granted its own dedicated presentation. During the event, director Takashi Yamazaki announced that the film would be "Filmed for IMAX"—a first for a Japanese movie—and unveiled the first teaser trailer. This announcement garnered extensive coverage from major media outlets both in Japan and abroad, creating a significant impact worldwide. The film has also generated significant buzz for the return of the stellar cast from GODZILLA MINUS ONE, alongside new additions—including Min Tanaka and Masami Nagasawa—who will face a fresh, desperate threat.
The world premiere, held in New York City on September 26 (local time), drew crowds of fans from around the globe. Following the screening, the audience erupted into a standing ovation, honoring director Takashi Yamazaki and stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, who were in attendance. Fans who have seen the film have been showering it with praise, with many eagerly awaiting the official release —with interest and anticipation reaching truly “Godzilla”-level heights!
The film is set to open in Japan on November 3 (a public holiday), followed by a North American release on November 6!
It has also been confirmed that the film will be released around the same time across Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. The heart-wrenching screams of a woman trapped in a house suspended in midair, , beams of light descending from the sky, massive explosions, and a relentless rain of debris…
As the characters—including Shikishima (played by Ryunosuke Kamiki)—find themselves cornered with no way to escape, their faces reflect utter despair. What does Noriko truly mean when she shouts, “This is my answer!”? And will Akiko’s small prayer, whispered amid the chaos, be heard?—

Born in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture in 1964. He was deeply influenced by STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND when he was a child, and decided to pursue a career in special effects. After graduating from Asagaya College of Art and Design, he joined Shirogumi Inc. in 1986. He worked on special effects and digital compositing for films directed by Juzo Itami, including THE LAST DANCE (大病人, Daibyōnin, 1993) and A QUIET LIFE (静かな生活, Shizukana Seikatsu, 1995). He made his directorial debut with JUVENILE (ジュブナイル, Jubunairu) in 2000, and is a leading figure in the field of visual effects and VFX, utilizing advanced CG visuals.
His movie ALWAYS -SUNSET ON THIRD STREET- (ALWAYS 三丁目の夕日, Ōruweizu: San-chōme no Yūhi, 2005), garnered acclaim for its VFX depiction of Showa-era cityscapes, replete with heartwarming humanity, vitality, and atmosphere. The film won 12 awards at the 29th Japan Academy Prize, including Best Picture and Best Director. His films THE ETERNAL ZERO (永遠の0, Eien no Zero, 2013) and STAND BY ME DORAEMON (STAND BY ME ドラえもん, Sutando Bai Mī Doraemon, 2014) won a combined nine awards at the 38th Japan Academy Prize, including Best Picture and Best Animated Film.
Furthermore, for GODZILLA MINUS ONE, where he served as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor, he achieved the first-ever Visual Effects Award for a Japanese film at the 96th Academy Awards. He is considered one of Japan’s leading film directors.

また、監督・脚本・VFX を担当した『ゴジラ-1.0』(23)では、第 96 回アカデミー賞🄬で日本映画初の視覚効果賞受賞を 果たした。日本を代表する映画監督の一人として数えられる。
