A SCIFI JAPAN EXCLUSIVE
Toho Co., Ltd. has provided high-res images from LUPIN THE THIRD: THE FIRST (??????THE FIRST, Rupan Sansei THE FIRST), the new computer animated feature film that calls back to Lupin III`s grandfather, the master thief Arsene Lupin. Created by Monkey Punch, the Lupin the Third manga debuted in Manga Action in 1967. The adventures of Lupin and his friends and foes have been adapted into several anime series and feature films, including LUPIN THE THIRD: CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO (????? ????????, Rupan Sansei Kariosutoro no Shiro, 1979), directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Forty years after Miyazaki`s masterpiece, comes the first movie version of Lupin using 3DCG animation. This was a longtime dream of Monkey Punch, who died this past April. Now that dream is a reality thanks to director Takashi Yamazaki, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the ALWAYS- SUNSET ON THIRD STREET trilogy, SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO (SPACE BATTLESHIP ???, Uchu Senkan Yamato, 2010) and THE ETERNAL ZERO (???0, Eien no Zero, 2013). Yamazaki is supported by longtime LUPIN THE THIRD voice actors Kanichi Kurita, Kiyoshi Kobayashi, Daisuke Namikawa, Miyuki Sawashiro and Koichi Yamadera as well as others who have contributed to the franchise over the decades.
