A SCIFI JAPAN EXCLUSIVE

Toho Co., Ltd. has provided information and high-res photos from their upcoming release, INUYASHIKI (?????). Described as the “sensational new virtual movie”, the live-action adaptation of Hiroya Oku`s remarkable sci-fi action manga opens in Japanese cinemas on April 20th. INUYASHIKI is also being offered to foreign distributors by sales agent Fuji TV Motion Picture.

INTRODUCTION

Super geezer takes you on a mind-bending “aerial experience”! INUYASHIKI is a collaboration between Hiroya Oku, creator of the blockbuster manga Gantz which sold over 20 million copies, and director Shinsuke Sato (DEATH NOTE Light up the NEW world), who brought the work to the big screen as a two-part live-action film which recorded box office sales of 6.3 billion yen. Famous comedian Noritake Kinashi (RYOMA’S WIFE, HER HUSBAND AND HER LOVER) plays the protagonist Inuyashiki in his first lead role in 16 years. Kinashi took on new challenges including “wire action” (wire work) stunts and intense battle scenes in this uncharacteristically dramatic role. Takeru Satoh (RUROUNI KENSHIN Trilogy, THE LIAR AND HIS LOVER, MASKED RIDER DEN-O) also took on a new challenge in his first villain role. He plays the mass murderer Shishigami, an antihero who possesses inhuman powers and kills without emotion or remorse. Sato uses his physical agility to bring fierce action scenes to life with effortless grace. Kanata Hongo (GANTZ and ATTACK ON TITAN films), Fumi Nikaido (HIBI ROCK: PUKE AFRO AND THE POP STAR, WOLF GIRL & BLACK PRINCE), Ayaka Miyoshi (CONFESSIONS) and Yusuke Iseya (CASSHERN, 13 ASSASSINS, KAIJI 2) round out the all-star cast. The climactic battle between Inuyashiki and Shishigami takes place in modern-day Shinjuku. Viewers are in for a heart-pounding virtual experience as the protagonists take to the sky, deftly maneuvering between skyscrapers at lightning speed over familiar landmarks in a fierce death match. The film incorporates a seamless fusion of actual footage and CG, as Inuyashiki and Shishigami’s bodies evolve into deadly weapons and the iconic city of Shinjuku is destroyed. Non-stop action and innovative visuals using the latest VFX technology will leave the audience breathless!

STORY Are humans inherently good? Or evil? A soon-to-be retired, utterly forgettable salaryman named Ichiro Inuyashiki (Noritake Kinashi) gets no respect from his colleagues or his family. His feelings of emptiness and futility are compounded one day when his doctor informs him that he has terminal cancer with only a few months to live. That night, Inuyashiki is involved in a freak accident with a UFO which somehow transforms his body into a machine with superhuman powers. He was now able to both attack and heal people only using his will. Hiro Shishigami (Takeru Satoh), a high school student also at the scene of the accident, undergoes the same transformation and begins to use his newfound powers as he likes... attacking living creatures and creating chaos to the world. Shishigami uses his powers to hurt whoever crosses his path, while Inuyashiki uses his powers to save them -- polar opposites with extraordinary powers, each with their own agendas...
