Following the triumphant 2023 release of Toho's GODZILLA MINUS ONE, which boasted ingenious, Oscar-winning visual effects and an emotionally gripping back-to-basics storytelling approach, director Takashi Yamazaki returns with a supremely satisfying sequel. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO picks up in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of GODZILLA MINUS ONE, and continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity. An experience that demands the big screen, featuring more astounding effects choreography than its predecessor, GODZILLA MINUS ZERO cranks up the terror while always keeping its post-WWII Japan narrative at human eye level.
The feature made its world premiere as the Spotlight Gala selection for the 64th New York Film Festival on September 26 to roaring reviews from fans and critics alike. The feature additionally hosted its UK premiere at BFI London Film Festival on October 14, and bowed as the Centerpiece Film of the the Tokyo International Film Festival on November 1st. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO recently celebrated its first North American IMAX screening at its Los Angeles Premiere, held at the historic TCL Chinese Theater to a packed audience, with Director Takashi Yamazaki, stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, as well as the feature’s Sound and VFX teams in attendance.
Shot entirely in Japan as the first-ever Japanese production to be Filmed For IMAX, GODZILLA MINUS ZERO was shot with high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX, and optimized in sound and imagery unique to IMAX screens. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO held Godzilla Day Early Access screenings exclusively in IMAX on November 3, ahead of its nationwide theatrical rollout on November 6. The globally beloved monster returns to movie theater screens reaching greater and more terrifying heights, making GODZILLA MINUS ZERO a true cinematic event not to be missed.
