Madman Entertainment will bring A SILENT VOICE (?? ???, Eiga Koe no Katachi, 2016) to Australian and New Zealand cinemas for a limited run starting April 6, 2017. Based on the highly regarded, award-winning manga by Yoshitoki Oima, the film was made by Kyoto Animation (THE MELANCHOLY OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA, LUCKY STAR) and Naoko Yamada, the director of K-ON! A SILENT VOICE was a strong contender against Makoto Shinkai’s YOUR NAME. (?????, Kimi no Na wa.) as anime film of 2016, reaching #21 in the Japanese box office charts for that year. STORY Sometimes the answer is as simple as learning to listen. Shoya Ishida starts bullying the new girl in class, Shoko Nishimiya, because she is deaf. But as the teasing continues, the rest of the class starts to turn on Shoya for his lack of compassion. When they leave elementary school, Shoko and Shoya do not speak to each other again... until an older, wiser Shoya, tormented by his past behaviour, decides he must see Shoko once more.
