A humorous yet loving and unique tale of a family! Toho has provided production notes and high-res images from their new comedic drama, A LOVING HUSBAND (?????, Koisaika Miyamoto). The movie co-stars Hiroshi Abe (GODZILLA 2000, THERMAE ROMAE, SHIPPU RONDO) and Yuki Amami (KAIJI: THE ULTIMATE GAMBLER, THE KIYOSU CONFERENCE, DETECTIVE CONAN: THE DARKEST NIGHTMARE). A LOVING HUSBAND opens in Japan this weekend. INTRODUCTION The married couple began with divorce papers. Today, there are an abundance of films that depict young love. The up-and-coming screenwriter Kazuhiko Yukawa, who has gifted the world with his phenomenally highly rated TV dramas I`M MITA, YOUR HOUSEKEEPER (??????, Kaseifu no Mita, 2011), makes his long-awaited directorial debut with A LOVING HUSBAND, from a screenplay which he penned himself. His debut film has been nominated for the 40th Montreal World Film Festival`s First Films World Competition category, and has received rave reviews at the festival, proving that the story is globally appealing. STORY Yohei Miyamoto (Hiroshi Abe) and Miyoko (Yuki Amami) began dating after meeting at a matchmaking party at a family restaurant during their university days. Yohei planned to go on to graduate school, and Miyoko dreamt of becoming a teacher, but one day, the two discovered that Miyoko was pregnant. Although he was bewildered inside, Yohei proposed to Miyoko after feeling a sense of responsibility as a man, and chose to become a teacher in Miyoko`s place. 27 years later. Tadashi (Jingi Irie), the only child of the Miyamoto household, got married, and became independent before the couple even realized it. Yohei and Miyoko only have each other as company for the first time since they got married. After both turning 50, the couple became husband and wife for the first time, after being a father and a mother. To celebrate their newfound solitude, Miyoko opens a bottle of wine, sweetly saying, "From now on, we stop calling each other Mom and Dad, and call each other by our names!" as if they were a newly married couple, but Miyoko quickly gets drunk and falls asleep. Seeing her sleeping face, Yohei keenly thinks, "She`s gotten old..." and begins looking around the bookshelf. Yohei finds the first book he lent to Miyoko when they began dating, A Dark Night`s Passing. Feeling nostalgic, Yohei flips through the pages, and suddenly, an envelope falls from inside. The contents... divorce papers with Miyoko`s seal on it! Yohei is severely upset, but finds himself unable to wake up Miyoko to question her, and spends the night worrying endlessly. From the next day, Yohei reads deeply into Miyoko`s every words and behavior, and can`t stop thinking about the meaning behind the divorce papers. One day, Miyoko suddenly leaves the house, saying she`s going to check up on Tadashi. Yohei takes A Dark Night`s Passing from the bookshelf, but the divorce papers were nowhere to be found... What is Yohei Miyamoto going to do?! What will happen to the Miyamotos?!

    About us

Welcome to SciFi Japan, your source for news and information on science fiction, horror, fantasy and action movies, TV shows and videos.. from classics and old favorites, to upcoming productions and home video releases, to the odd and obscure titles you may never have heard of!

The mainstream press has largely ignored Japanese tokusatsu (special effects) films, and when the genre has been covered by American news outlets and television the results were often inaccurate and condescending. On the other hand, there have been some excellent fan publications and websites devoted to these films, but Japanese studios have been extremely reluctant to deal with fan groups due to concerns over copyright infringement issues (some fans advocate and promote activities such as video bootlegging and unlicensed downloading). With no direct access to studio news and photos, fan reporting has often been forced to rely on secondhand info and rumors.

What was missing was a professionally run English news outlet working directly with Japanese studios and filmmakers. So, in 2006, we brought together a talented group of published authors and reporters, film historians, reviewers, festival organizers, and movie makers with ties to the Japanese film industry to launch SciFi Japan (More information on our key contributors can be found here). The only English language news site press registered with all of the major Japanese studios and production companies, SciFi Japan is able to consistently bring accurate and exclusive information on Japanese films and shows to English speaking/reading fans worldwide.

This site also receives updates from licensees and distributors of Japanese movies in North America, the UK and Australia, and we’re press registered with the major American studios as well. So, while our primary focus remains Japanese llive action and anime news we will rinclude international productions in our "International SciFii" and. "Asian Cinema" sections.

And in 2012, we launched SciFi JAPAN TV, a web series featuring coverage of tokusatsu events and interviews with Japanese filmmakers. Each episode was shot on location in Japan exclusively for SciFi Japan by the Gaijin Channel production team.

SciFi Japan has grown by leaps and bounds over these past few years, and the site will continue to improve. So please bookmark SFJ and check back with us frequently… we’ll do our best to make it worth the effort!
