On July 10, 1966, Ultraman made his first appearance on television in THE BIRTH OF ULTRAMAN – ULTRAMAN Pre-Premiere Special (ウルトラマン前夜祭 ウルトラマン誕生, Urutoraman Zen'yasai Urutoraman Tanjō), a black & white broadcast of a stage show that introduced the live audience and introduced viewers to the premise, cast and characters of the ULTRAMAN series, which would debut the following week.
July 10th is now known as "Ultraman Day" (ウルトラマンの日, Urutoraman no Hi), as registered with the Japan Anniversary Association. And this year's Ultraman Day is particularly special as it marks the 60th Anniversary of Ultraman. Tsuburaya Productions is celebrating this milestone with the "Ultraman Series 60th Anniversary Project" (ウルトラマンシリーズ60周年プロジェクト, Urutoraman Shirīzu 60-Shūnen Purojekuto), a campaign that will include events in Japan and abroad plus the international release of the new feature length documentary THE ORIGIN OF ULTRAMAN (オリジン オブ ウルトラマン, Orijin Obu Urutoraman).
Here's to 60 more years of Ultraman!
