A SCIFI JAPAN EXCLUSIVE

Toho Co., Ltd. has provided SciFi Japan with information and high-res images from STAND BY ME DORAEMON 2 (STAND BY ME ドラえもん 2), the upcoming sequel to the smash hit 2014 film STAND BY ME DORAEMON. Celebrating Doraemon 50th anniversary, this 3DCG anime movie recreates story from the 2000 short film DORAEMON: A GRANDMOTHER’S RECOLLECTIONS (おばあちゃんの思い出, Doraemon: Obāchan no Omoide). STAND BY ME DORAEMON co-directors Takashi Yamazaki (ALWAYS- SUNSET ON THIRD STREET trilogy, SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, LUPIN III: THE FIRST) and Ryuichi Yagi (BIOHAZARD Ø, FRIENDS: NAKI ON MONSTER ISLAND) return to helm the film.
STAND BY ME DORAEMON 2 was originally scheduled for a Japanese theatrical release this past August 8th. That date was given to the traditionally animated feature DORAEMON THE MOVIE: NOBITA’S NEW DINOSAUR (映画ドラえもん のび太の新恐竜, Eiga Doraemon Nobita no Shin Kyōryū), whose release had been pushed back from March 6 due to the pandemic. STAND BY ME DORAEMON 2 will now open on November 20.
STORY
One day Nobita finds an old teddy bear. It was a hand sewn gift from his beloved late grandmother. The memories trigger a torrent of tears for Nobita, who cries “I want to see my grandma!” He asks Doraemon if they can use the time machine to travel back to when Nobita was 3 years old and his Grandma was still alive. Doraemon protests, but they go anyway. Grandma sees Nobita quickly recognizes him as her grandson. She tells him she always hoped she could see him married and meet his bride.
Doraemon, Nobita and his friends tiem travel to the future to show Grandma Nobita’s wedding. But on the day of his marriage to Shizuka, the groom Nobita ran away!?? Gian and Suneo look for Nobita, while Shizuka wonders if she should keep waiting for him. What will happen?
STAND BY ME DORAEMON 2 presents a story of the tears and bonds that connects the past, present, and future.
