GKIDS, the acclaimed producer and distributor of globally beloved animation, announces EVANGELION 30th Movie Fest this summer. In celebration of the historic property’s 30th anniversary, GKIDS will be releasing EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)² & REBIRTH and THE END OF EVANGELION in theatres for two nights only, on July 21st and 22nd.

Created by Hideaki ANNO, the EVANGELION franchise is considered one of the most influential animated sagas of all time. Since the premiere of the original television series, the story of teenager Shinji Ikari has remained one of the most iconic titles in animation history, and a global pop culture phenomenon.
A formative title in the animation canon, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION demonstrated the ability of animation to tell stories of philosophy, and intellectual and emotional characters, unlike anything that had been seen before in animation on a global scale.
In 2022, GKIDS released the original twenty-six episode television series, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, as well as the films EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)² and THE END OF EVANGELION on Blu-ray and digital download-to-own for the first time in North America. The same year, GKIDS also released the fourth and final installment of the new theatrical “Rebuild” editions of the EVANGELION franchise, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME, in theaters and on digital download-to-own and EVANGELION:3.0+1.11 THRICE UPON A TIME on Blu-ray. GKIDS also handles North American distribution for creator Hideaki ANNO’s prior series NADIA: THE SECRET OF BLUE WATER. GKIDS is proud to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary by bringing EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)2 AND REBIRTH and THE END OF EVANGELION back to theatres for long-time and new fans alike to experience on the biggest screens possible.

EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)² & REBIRTH (エヴァンゲリオン DEATH (TRUE)² & REBIRTH, Evangerionオン DEATH (TRUE)² & REBIRTH, 1997-98) Synopsis:
Opening March 15, 1997, this is the original film adaptation of the TV anime NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, helmed by Director Hideaki ANNO and airing from 1995-1996. It is composed of EVANGELION:DEATH, a compilation of episodes 1-24 out of the original 26 episode series, as well as EVANGELION:REBIRTH, a portion of the alternative ending of episode 25, “Air.” Further airings evolved into the version known as EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)² & REBIRTH, which is now being screened outside Japan in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the series.

THE END OF EVANGELION (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン劇場版 Air/まごころを、君に, Shin Seiki EvangerionGekijō-ban Air/ Magokoro o, Kimi ni, 1997) Synopsis:
This final movie version was created as an alternative ending to the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION TV series, remaking the final two episodes from the series. SEELE plans an attack on NERV after failing to create a man-made Third Impact. After reaffirming both her own and her mother’s existence in a state of despair, Asuka returns and begins the counterattack. However, new enemies descend from the heavens. Meanwhile, Shinji witnesses the horrifying wreckage of Asuka’s EVA-02 while piloting EVA-01. Mass production models surround EVA-01 and perform a solemn ceremony. What does it mean to complete a human heart?
